According to the plans, a 14,000 sq ft supermarket will be based at the site of some former oil offices on Hareness Road, Altens, and have 109 parking spaces.

A public consultation on the Aberdeen proposal has been opened online, ahead of the supermarket chain formally lodging a planning application.

Aldi said the move will generate up to 35 jobs, and represent an investment of more than £3.8 million into the area.

Philip Johnston, Aldi’s property director for Scotland, said: “This marks an exciting time for Aldi and our relationship with Aberdeen as we bring forward our plans for our fourth store in the city.

“Aberdeen remains a key area of growth for Aldi and I am delighted to be able to present our plans to the local community and bring our award-winning offer to the area.”

The German-based chain is also eyeing a plot of land on the corner of Necessity Brae and Low Road on the outskirts of Perth for a new store.

The site which is currently vacant, bordering allotments and cottages, would be adjacent to both the Cherrybank Inn and recently built houses at Kinmond Drive.

Planners have begun collecting feedback for the store online with hopes to be open to the public by October 2022.

Philip Johnston said the new development could create up to 35 local jobs, bolstered by new jobs during construction and within the Aldi supply chain.

The existing employees at the Glasgow Road store would all be retained.

Mr Johnston said: “This marks an exciting time as we bring forward plans to relocate our Glasgow Road store to a new, larger, purpose-built location at Necessity Brae.

“Perth is a key area of growth for Aldi and I am delighted to be able to present our plans to the local community as we seek to expand our award-winning offer in the city.

“Our current store is simply too small and no longer fit for purpose, with the proposed new site allowing us the opportunity to increase our product range and provide further job opportunities.”
