Brunton Design unveils new flats and retail proposal for Dundee city centre
Designed to take account of a neighbouring listed building, the apartment block in the Marketgait will contain 43 flats as well as shops and a restaurant on the ground floor.
Alan Mudie, of Brunton Design, said: “We have been in discussions with the local Dundee authority for about two years now. Their officials have been unfailingly helpful and enthusiastic. It’s great to be putting forward plans for such an important building outside the waterfront.”
The site, currently occupied by a Shell filling station, is next to the former Henderson jute mill, one of the few Dundee mills to be designed by architects rather than engineers. Re-built in 1873 following a fire, the mill is now a B-listed structure.
Mr Mudie added: “We are of course aware of the sensitive setting and have been very careful to take account of this in our design. We aim to produce a contemporary building, using environmentally-friendly material, construction methods and energy sources.”
