Glasgow-based developer CCG Homes has reached a major milestone in the delivery of its flagship housing development Riverford Gardens.

Building Briefs – February 7th

Set within the confluence of Pollokshaws and Newlands in the south side of the city, construction commenced at the 156-home development in March 2018 with sales launching in September of that year.

All of CCG Homes’ 100 sales have been taken within 14 months including 39 during the winter period alone. With a further two sales releases set to launch over the coming months, CCG Homes is confident that their current rate of sale will continue to be as positive.

Riverford Gardens is due for completion in October 2020 whilst CCG Homes is to embark on another major development this summer with 81 two and three-bedroom homes in Cambuslang.

  • Project to restore North Bridge enters key phase

A project to refurbish Edinburgh’s North Bridge is set to enter a new phase, involving work to the road crossing it and to the underside of the bridge deck.

The City of Edinburgh Council’s £22 million initiative, which began in summer 2018, aims to safeguard the long-term use of the Victorian Category A-listed bridge.

To allow the essential repairs and maintenance to take place, road restrictions will be required for the duration of this stage of the scheme, which is expected to last around 16 months.

Traffic management, which will be carried out in a series of phases and will begin on 17 February, has been developed with all road users in mind and ensures that footpaths and one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained. As part of this, some of the bus stops on North Bridge will be temporarily moved, and the council is working closely with bus companies to share on-street information about the nearest alternative stop.

Work to the top of the bridge includes relaying pavement slabs and kerbs, installing expansion joints, resurfacing and waterproofing repairs. Underneath the bridge, the team will be reconstructing secondary structures and carrying out repairs to the reinforced concrete bridge deck.

Last year, the contractor, Balfour Beatty progressed the erection of a complex scaffolding structure, which is now complete and facilitating access to all parts of the bridge. To minimise disruption, all 300km of steel scaffold tube, connectors and boards were delivered to site overnight and installed with minimal disturbance to the public.

Specialist contractors are now in the process of restoring the structure’s cast iron works, which were installed in 1897 and were last repainted in 1990.

  • Masterplan to regenerate Glenrothes town centre

Work is underway to prepare a masterplan that will provide a creative and practical vision for Glenrothes town centre.

The plan to regenerate the town centre will be developed with input from the local community and workshops are being held on 21 February 2020 at the Enterprise Hub, Glenrothes between 2pm and 7pm.

Its design team are holding the workshops to explore ways to redevelop parts of the town centre, including the Kingdom House site, currently being demolished, and the site of the former Police Station.

The workshops will involve a series of focused discussions, along with displays, and members of the design team will be on hand to answer questions.
