Saturday 12 June will see the opening of The Waverley, part of The Avenue at Ravelrig Heights in Balerno. With more than 3700 square feet of living space, it becomes the largest showhome launched by CALA in the region – and showcases an electric gated entrance, self-contained accommodation above its detached garage, and a large garden.

It follows the opening of the brand new sales suite at the fast-selling Cammo Meadows development to the city’s north-west, with its showpiece properties, The Mallaig and The Montrose opening their doors at the turn of the month.

All three offer five double bedrooms with expansive and adaptable family space, open plan living and high specification fixtures and fittings throughout.

Each of the three homes features an interior design by Eileen Kesson, of Envision Design.

The existing building will be demolished with a new development planned. The new project will see the delivery of 24 new flats, with lift access to enable the flats to be fully accessible on all floors. The flats will be designed to accommodate those with mobility needs.

The demolition contract has been awarded to Geo Beattie & Sons and demolition work commenced on site on May 4. Demolition work is likely to take around 8 weeks with the new build project scheduled to start on site in February 2022.

A ceremony was held on site on May 17 to mark the start of the demolition contract, with Councillor Jim Montgomerie (who started the demolition) with the Association’s board members in attendance.

Councillor Montgomerie said: “I am delighted to see our latest housing development start in Saltcoats. It is in a fantastic location with easy access to the Town, bus stop and railway station. I am really looking forward to seeing it completed.”

Frank Sweeney, CEO Cunninghame Housing Association, added: “The new flats with lift access in this prime Saltcoats town centre site will bring much needed houses for those with mobility issues.”

  • Office use plan for empty Glasgow unit

A change of use application has been submitted for the ground floor at 35 Virginia Street in Glasgow.

Permitted uses for the space currently are retail, food/drink and financial/professional and other services.

The application calls for the unit to be used as an office.

A mezzanine level is also proposed as part of the plan.

  • Government rejects homes plan near Old Course

The Scottish Government has rejected a bid to build four luxury homes next to the famous Old Course in St Andrews.

Developers argued the proposal was a significant improvement on the 1960s-built house currently on the site.

But Scottish Government reporter Claire Milne has backed the stance taken by members of Fife Council’s north east planning committee in October.

She ruled the proposal does not accord with the local development plan and added: “There are no material considerations which would still justify granting planning permission.”

Ayr-based main contractor Clyde Coast Contracts started work on site in June last year and completed on May 10.

The overall development costs to deliver the contract was £1,963,000. The Association was awarded £1.089m from the Scottish Government to support the delivery of these new homes. A total of 13 new homes for rent have been provided, a mixture of 2- & 3-bedroom family houses as well as 2 cottage flats.

A closing ceremony was held on May 10 to mark the completion of the properties and to showcase the naming of the street after Janet Strang, a long-standing CHA board member and former chairperson of Cunninghame Housing Association.
