Taylor Wimpey East Scotland went back to school to give the children of Castleview Primary in Edinburgh some reminders about health and safety.

As construction of new homes at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland’s development of new homes at Bankfield Brae, off Greendykes Road is now underway, the homebuilder was keen to promote the dangers associated with playing near any construction site.



The visit gave Taylor Wimpey an opportunity to raise awareness of the children’s need to be extra vigilant as the building of its new homes progresses.

 

  • Historic Aberdeenshire hotel set for refurbishment

A historic Aberdeenshire hotel has announced a major refurbishment plan for 2020 with a six-figure investment to support its growth.



Maryculter House on South Deeside Road will see all its 40 bedrooms and public areas transformed as part of this significant project which will be completed this year and kick-starts an exciting period of activity for the hotel.

Immersed in history and dating back to the order of Knights Templar in 1225AD, the hotel still boasts some beautiful original features which will be preserved as part of the refurbishment and enhanced with the modern luxury Scottish aesthetic planned for the public areas and bedrooms.

 

  • Pacific Building completes restaurant refurbishment works

Pacific Building has completed a comprehensive makeover of one of the most popular family restaurants in east central Scotland.



The four-week programme saw the Toby Carvery Lauriston Farm in Edinburgh reopen on March 7, with a sparkling new look to appeal to regular and new diners.

The project commenced with a two-week “soft-close”, followed by a full shutdown from Monday, February 24, 2020.

 

  • Stirling Council approves 2020/21 budget

Stirling Council said it has committed to investing millions in initiatives to support communities, grow the local economy and enhance infrastructure including roads after it approved a budget package which will safeguard vital services, protect its most vulnerable people and increase investment in the capital programme to more than £30 million. 



Within the capital programme, the council will be spending on a wide-range of projects that support the local authority’s six key priorities.

Among these commitments are £6.17m for road and infrastructure improvements, £1.54m for community facilities, £3.8m for enhancing schools and other education settings, £2.56m for projects involving the City Region Deal, £1.49m for various social care initiatives.

Some of the projects prioritised for the next 12 months are the refurbishment of the former Royal Bank of Scotland building in Bannockburn to create a business and community hub, along with improvements to Bannockburn Library and the football pitches at Laighills, Dunblane.

 



  • Inverclyde budget approved

Inverclyde Council’s budget has been approved at a meeting held in Greenock yesterday. 

A capital programme of £59m was agreed which includes £14.8m on schools and pre-five centres; £9.4m on roads infrastructure; £3.3m for town and village centres - on top of £700,000 allocated from reserves; £2.8m for scheme of assistance, funding the Care and Repair Service and a range of aids and adaptations to allow residents with physical disabilities to remain in their own homes; and £7.4m for a new state of the art hub on the site of the former Hector McNeil Baths site for adults with learning disabilities.

A member of staff at the Lochmaben site of roof tile manufacturer Russell Roof Tiles has been recognised as Employee of the Quarter after going above and beyond his regular duties.

The Employee of the Quarter scheme is in place to reward exceptional staff who have displayed outstanding services, and Russell Roof Tiles encourages their workforce to nominate those who go the extra mile.

Davy Porteous has been with Russell’s for 26 years, working as a key loader and forklift driver and received the award after his exemplary service over the last quarter. He received a certificate and £150 in retail vouchers.

The Employee of the Quarter scheme was introduced in 2017 in order to maintain Russell’s collaborative company ethos, and to recognise their staff’s continued hard work and dedication.



 

  • Renfrewshire Council announce major investment in local green spaces

Renfrewshire Council has announced a major investment in local green spaces following successful applications to our £1.87 million Green Spaces, Parks and Play Areas and Villages Investment Fund.

More than £120,000 is set to be invested in four projects which will improve the play equipment for young people and upgrade the infrastructure in parks across Renfrewshire, after councillors approved the plans.



Sandyflats Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) have been awarded £50,000 to radically redesign their local play park to create more inclusive equipment for children of all ages, and potentially a community garden in the future.

£50,000 has also been awarded to Spateston TARA to update their local play park, create a Community Hub and community gardens, kick starting their Place Plan which aspires to create a new community hub and gardens.

Bridge of Weir Community Council have been successful with their application for £12,000 which will see a new playhouse installed at Horsewood Road Park, and a new slide and activity boards in Lintwhite Park, while £10,000 has been given to Friends of Knockhill Park to upgrade the park’s main paths which they hope will encourage more leisure activities within the park.

£13,645 had already been granted to four other projects, which included a feasibility study for bowling green improvements for Lochfield Ladies Bowling and Social Club, a gardening project within Fountain Gardens in Paisley, Brediland Allotments will create a new pond and surrounding meadow area to encourage nature to thrive in the allotment, and Corseford TARA will paint and enhance the entrances to a well-used local underpass in the area.

More than £800,000 has been awarded or committed from the fund already, with a further £640,000 allocated to other potential projects under development including new play equipment in Kilbarchan, Barwood, Lochfield, Hawkhead, McKerrell Street and Fountain Gardens.

In addition, upgrades to Thomas Shanks Park and South Park Mound are being examined, along with improvements to the community growing grounds in Foxbar and Linwood.
