  • Lights upgrade for Hyndford Bridge

Drivers are being advised to allow extra time for journeys via Hyndford Bridge while traffic signal upgrade work is underway.

Building Briefs – March 17th

The improvement work is due to commence today and is expected to last no more than two days.

Head of roads and transportation at South Lanarkshire Council, Gordon Mackay, said: “Drivers will be aware that the signals were recently out of action, this was due to a power supply issues outwith the council’s control.

“This upgrade work will include a new controller and equipment to ensure the traffic signals will remain in operation should the power supply issue return.

“We would request that all road users allow additional time for all journeys and that they plan their routes accordingly. We apologise for any inconvenience that may occur.”

The events were due to take place today, 19 and 21 March in Greengairs, Chapelhall and Airdrie.

  • Orkney carriageway repair works begin

Carriageway repairs and resurfacing on the Ontoft Road on Orkney began this week.

The work, from Cromarty Square to the Pier Road, in St Margaret’s Hope, should take around a week to complete.

During this time temporary traffic lights will be in place, however there may be periods when the Ontoft Road will be closed to all traffic to enable the works to be carried out in safety. As part of the traffic management for the works there will be no access from or to the Back Road through the Village from Cromarty Square for the duration of the works.

During the works, Stagecoach will be unable to serve the Back Road in the Hope and will operate via St Margaret’s Road, Ontoft Road and Pier Road where it is hoped that any delays due to the road works, will be kept to a minimum, however delays should be expected.
