  • Council to sell lodge house at Belleisle

South Ayrshire Council is preparing to sell a lodge house in Belleisle Park, Ayr.

Councillors were expected to approve the building, on Doonfoot Road, and see if it should be sold at this week’s Leadership Panel.

A council report found the backlog maintenance costs of bringing the property back to an acceptable standard are likely to be substantial “given the neglected state of the building by the previous owner”.

The council bought the lodge house in June 2020 along with two acres of land and the burnt out hotel.

It is set to be advertised on the open market if politicians give the sale the go ahead.

  • Borders council spend with local businesses increases to over £77m

More than £77 million was spent locally by Scottish Borders Council in 2019/20, the annual procurement report shows.

A key ambition of the council’s procurement strategy is to support local businesses, jobs and the economy, and the amount spend with third parties operating within the Borders increased from £75.9m in 2018/19 to £77.1m in 2019/20. This is over 44 per cent of the total council spent with third parties.

The report also outlines how the council is working to make best use of its resources and also derive other benefits from its contracts and spending. This includes community benefit clauses in contracts which have delivered jobs, apprenticeships, training and educational activities.

Communities have also benefited, for example with the provision of salt spreaders to some Resilient Community groups who wanted to play their part in tackling winter weather. These were donated by the Council’s winter salt provider.
