Campaigners release alternative versions of Marischal Square development

A protest group against the planned Marischal Square development in Aberdeen have released images of their preferred options for the site.

Developer Muse plans to begin work on its £107 million hotel, office and retail project next month, though the scheme has had its detractors.

The illustration portrays the square as an open green space with more emphasis given to Marischal College, which protesters fear will be blocked by the new development.

The building has been replaced with a more traditional granite structure to the south housing a hotel or office space.

A previous protest saw hundreds of protesters form a human chain around the site while a ‘Reject Marischal Square’ campaign march is expected this Saturday.

Completion of the Halliday Fraser Munro-designed project is expected by the summer of 2017.
