Winchburgh Developments Limited (WDL) has sold a prime waterfront site to J. Smart & Co. (Contractors) PLC to deliver 64 new apartments and houses overlooking the new Winchburgh canal marina.

Canalside apartments and family homes in pipeline after Winchburgh land sale

The deal follows a previous land sale of a site to provide four bespoke designed family homes opposite the new school campus.

The canalside development, Canal Quarter, will comprise a total of 50 one, two and three-bed apartments as well as 14 three-bed townhouses set within landscaped grounds.

Located at the heart of the new town centre, the marina will be connected by a footbridge to the new Daisy Park and provide access to the Union Canal towpath.

The four bespoke five-bedroomed homes on Linlithgow Road, The Courtyard, will be complemented by an area of public open space ensuring that the existing mature trees will be retained. This green space will include hedgerows, lawn areas, shrub beds, bulb planting and seating. Footpaths will connect this new public space to the wider path network and to the new Smart development.

John Hamilton, CEO, Winchburgh Developments Limited, said: “We are delighted to welcome J. Smart & Co to Winchburgh, at both of these highly desirable locations.

“The new canal marina will offer its residents a superb lifestyle, located in the heart of the town with access to the towpaths and cycle routes, parks and shops. As a result, we anticipate they will be highly sought after.

“The four architect-designed homes occupy a prominent gateway site at one of the entrances to the village, and their low-density design, landscaping and convenient location close to Auldcathie District Park and opposite the new school campus makes this an exciting addition to the masterplan.”

David Smart, chairman and joint managing director, J. Smart & Co, said: “We are delighted to be given this opportunity by Winchburgh Developments Limited to develop two prominent new housing developments in Winchburgh, which offer an impressive range of new local amenities and schooling with excellent access to surrounding areas.

“‘The Courtyard’ on Linlithgow Road is an exclusive development of four high quality five-bedroom family homes set around a private courtyard in a prime location near the new school campus which is to be released for sale soon by our marketing agents Ballantynes.

“Our other new development in the heart of Winchburgh, Canal Quarter, along the canal and overlooking the new marina will offer not only high-quality apartments with views across the marina, but also a selection of three-bedroom family homes with private gardens.”

Spanning 352 hectares, Winchburgh is one of the largest placemaking projects currently underway in the UK delivering new homes, improved transport links, employment opportunities, state-of-the-art schools and stunning new outdoor spaces to the historic town.

When complete, the masterplan will deliver at least 3,800 homes, including 750 affordable homes of which 450 will be for social rent.
