CMS Window Systems is celebrating after picking up the Gold award in the International Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice 2017 at a special presentation ceremony held at the Houses of Parliament in London.

The window, door and curtain walling fabricator was presented with the award in recognition for its success in environmental sustainability, joining an alumni of previous winners including BAM Nuttall, Kier and Balfour Beatty.

CMS is unique in the fenestration industry for its ‘closed-loop’ approach, which ensures it recycles post-use windows and doors and replaces them with fully recyclable, high performance products designed to help increase the energy efficiency of buildings and reduce their carbon footprint.

Collecting the award at the Houses of Parliament were two newly appointed directors, who join the expanded senior management team as the business grows its trade and retail market operations.

Gerald McSkimming joins as operations director, bringing with him over 25 years’ experience from a wide range of manufacturing industries. Working alongside Gerald is Craig Reid, who has been appointed as PVC contracts director. His previous roles include senior positions within the building interiors, fit-out, facilities management and washrooms sectors.

Andy Kerr, managing director at CMS Window Systems, said: “We’re delighted to win Gold in the International Green Apple Awards and to welcome Gerald and Craig to the business. Winning this award is a tremendous achievement given the excellent calibre of the other entrants and it encourages us even more to continuously develop our sustainable business practices to do what we do even better.

“This is an exciting time for our business as we build on our core strengths and hard-earned reputation in the social housing and new build markets and continue to develop our CMS Approved Trade and Retail Partner networks across Scotland, a programme that will enable many more homeowners, builders and trade installers to access and benefit from our award-winning product range.

“In addition to our recycling processes, which divert 95% of our waste away from landfill annually, CMS operates in the most resource-efficient ways, including training its fleet drivers to reduce their fuel consumption, and helping to promote the sustainable building agenda at its Innovation Hub, a dedicated educational and events facility.”

In winning a Green Apple Award, CMS Window Systems will have 100 trees planted in its name as part of the United Nations Billion Trees initiative, and it will be invited to represent the UK in the Green World Awards 2018.

The company has also been invited to have its winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can learn from its environmental sustainability strategy.
