Members of Aberdeen City Council’s city growth and resources committee were this week given updates on three separate transport projects.

Councillors given progress updates on Aberdeen transport projects

The Bridge of Dee West Active Travel Corridor, the Bridge of Don to City Centre Active Travel Corridor, and the Aberdeen to Westhill Transport Corridor Study are all at different stages of development.

For the Bridge of Dee West Active Travel Corridor, the committee approved that officers undertake preliminary and detailed design works for Phase 1, which is connecting Robert Gordon University (RGU) to Deeside Way.

Officers will also explore any opportunities to link this study with the Bridge of Dee – River Crossing Capacity Study, including public and development-led funding opportunities. More details can be found in the report to committee

For the Bridge of Don to City Centre Active Travel Corridor, members of the committee agreed the five preferred routes for the Corridor, and they also agreed for officers to carry further work to develop the interventions recommended in the routes.

The five preferred routes are Options 4 (Golf Road/ Park Road), Option 5 (Industrial Estate to City Centre via Esplanade), Option 6 (King Street), Option 10 (Whitestripes to City Centre), and Option 11 (Haudagain to City Centre). More details can be found here.

For the Aberdeen to Westhill Transport Corridor Study, the committee agreed the outcomes of a study into options for improved transport connections (particularly active travel and public transport connections) and gave approval to proceed to the development of the outline business case for the proposed potential interventions.

The interventions have been broken down into individual options which are then packaged into a low delivery package, a medium delivery package and a high delivery package. The individual options and the packages can be viewed here.

Aberdeen City Council city growth and resources convener, Councillor Douglas Lumsden, said: “All of these active travel proposals help to support the City Council’s ambitious Net Zero carbon plans for Aberdeen and I welcome the progress which has been made.

“I look forward to the next stages of all of these schemes which will add more ways for people to walk and cycle about the city and reducing emissions from vehicles.”
