Dilapidation disputes top the bill at DLA Piper seminar

DLA PiperReal estate professionals in Scotland will gather tomorrow to discuss recent high profile legal cases involving disputes over the dilapidation of commercial properties and receive legislation updates from legal experts.

Hosted by DLA Piper’s Real Estate practice, the breakfast seminar will take place from 8.00am on Thursday 21 July at DLA Piper’s Edinburgh office.

Alistair Drummond, litigation partner at DLA Piper in Edinburgh, will provide a case law update looking at specific dilapidation disputes and will provide a general overview of the latest commercial property laws in Scotland.

A specialist in commercial property and lease disputes, Alistair will consider the issues which arise from the cases of Grove v Cape and the recent Inner House decision of @SIPP v Insight and discuss the key principles and lessons that can be learned from the point of view of landlords and tenants alike.

Alistair Drummond said: “Understanding the law surrounding the maintenance and repair of leased commercial properties in Scotland is a key consideration for landlords and tenants alike. The decision in @SIPP reflects the recent shift in contractual interpretation emanating from the UK Supreme Court in the case of Arnold v Britton. A key consideration for attendees will be understanding how the Scottish Courts will approach the interpretation and implementation of contractual rights and obligations, such as those concerning the maintenance and repair of leased premises.”

The seminar is complimentary and will qualify for 1 hour CPD. Registration will take place, and breakfast will be available from 8.00 am, before the seminar starts at 8.30 am, running until 9.30 am.
