Dundee city centre flats given green light
Council planners in Dundee have approved proposals for more than two dozen flats and a ground level retail unit in the city centre.
The proposed development at Trades Lane on the site of the former McLeish’s warehouse will see 28 flats developed along with the retail space and storage unit for bikes.
Lynne Short, convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee, welcomed the development.
She said: “This site is in a high profile position seen by lots of people and in an area of the town that has a fascinating history.
“As well as providing seven floors of accommodation at a prominent city centre site, the retail unit will generate jobs and a buzz at a busy junction.
“More residents in the city centre will help to boost the night time economy and create a sense of vibrancy and community.”
Directly opposite Dundee Bus Station, the property has been designed by Dundee architects James Paul Associates and is being developed by Seagate (Dundee) Ltd.
The new block will also feature a public art installation by local artist Nael Hanna to enhance its visual appeal.
