Dundee Regional Performance Centre for Sport submitted for planning

The first images have been unveiled of the proposed £17 million Regional Performance Centre for Sport in Dundee as the development is submitted for planning permission.

Earmarked for a site at the city’s Caird Park, the centre will provide training and competition facilities for sports clubs and provide a new training base for Dundee FC.

The site, which already caters for football, athletics and cycling, will see these facilities improved drastically along with incorporating other sports such as rugby, basketball, badminton and cricket.

Preparatory works at and around the site began in February following councillors’ approval of £850,000 of works by Tayside Contracts.

The submitted planning proposal for the development said: “The project will provide two new co-located facilities.

“The new Regional Performance Centre for Sport will provide a training and competition venue for regional clubs and squads across a wide but defined range of sports.”

If approved, developers hope construction of the sports complex could begin by the end of the year.
