Edinburgh’s £500m Quartermile development appoints sales and marketing director

A sales and marketing director has been appointed to Edinburgh city centre’s £500m landmark mixed-use Quartermile development.

Jan Welsh has over 25 years’ property sector experience and joins from Countrywide Land & New Homes where she was area director for the North West of England. During her four years at Countrywide, Jan worked extensively with UK and international investors on a variety of large mixed use schemes.

Prior to this, Jan held senior positions with estate agent Alan & Harris as a regional sales manager in Glasgow and for property agent Knight Frank as a sales manager for Scotland covering Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

In her new role, Jan will be responsible for implementing Quartermile’s marketing strategy and directing the sales and customer service team.

When completed, Quartermile will ultimately provide the city centre with in excess of 900 apartments, over 350,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation, 108,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space together with seven acres of open landscaping.

Welcoming Jan to the business, Quartermile managing director, Paul Curran, said: “Jan brings with her a wealth of sales and marketing experience and an excellent network which we are already benefitting from. We already have a significant construction programme underway and will build upon the momentum we have created.

“Jan will play a crucial role in our continued success and growth of the business. Her knowledge and insight will help shape future sales and marketing activity for Quartermile and other future development opportunities.”

Commenting on her appointment, Jan said: “As a development brand, Quartermile occupies a distinctive luxury positioning within Edinburgh, which is reflected by its residential and commercial sales and lettings success both in the UK and abroad.

“I am joining Quartermile at a hugely exciting time in its development and I am looking forward to developing the brand nationally and internationally. There is a great team at Quartermile and we are working together to further enhance the development’s burgeoning reputation as the city’s most desirable place to live, work and relax.”

Over 585 apartments have been sold to date and the development has experienced a year-on-year increase in sales for three years, with growth expected to continue throughout 2014 and beyond. Residential properties currently available for sale at the development range from £230,000 for a one-bedroom apartment to £850,000 for three-bedroom luxury apartment with terrace.

Quartermile also recently secured an £80m funding deal to enable it to speculatively develop its remaining two office buildings - Quartermile 3 and Quartermile 4. Construction of the 130,000 sq ft Quartermile 4 Grade A office building commenced in July and is due to complete in early 2016.

The development’s retail portfolio is expanding with the recent opening of Italian bar restaurant Enzo and Hot Flame World Banquet Dining. Other occupiers include Peter’s Yard, Sainsbury’s Local, Starbucks, Fitness Chicks, Pure Gym, Looking Glass Books, Edinburgh City Pads, Savour To Go, and Malaysian restaurant Nanyang. It is also home to the UK’s first Marriott Residence Inn.
