Energy minister to visit inaugural Dcarbonise and 19th All-Energy

Scotland’s minister for energy, connectivity and the islands Paul Wheelhouse MSP will be visiting the inaugural Dcarbonise exhibition and conference and All-Energy, the UK’s largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference, on May 16.

Mr Wheelhouse will deliver a keynote address at the events’ joint plenary session at Glasgow’s SEC, and tour Dcarbonise.

Dcarbonise focuses on energy efficiency, low carbon heat and low carbon transport solutions while All-Energy concentrates on renewable power, which it has upheld for almost 20 years since its launch in 2001 – both events are open on 15 and 16 May.

The Scottish Government is one of three organisations sponsoring Dcarbonise – the others being the Energy Saving Trust and Zero Waste Scotland. Dcarbonise is co-located with All-Energy and is also free to attend, enabling visitors to move freely between both exhibitions and attend conference and seminar sessions at both events.

Looking forward to his visit to these events, minister Paul Wheelhouse said: “Scotland’s transformation into a low carbon society is well underway and, in 2018, almost 75% of Scotland’s electricity demand was generated from renewable sources. However, we need to see similar advances in decarbonisation of energy used for heat and transport.

“This wider transformation cannot be achieved by any government alone, but can and will be achieved with the public, private and third sectors working together, and it is in this context that we are proud to sponsor the inaugural Dcarbonise exhibition and conference.

“The Scottish Government  places great importance on working closely with businesses, the public sector, and individuals to: promote investment in energy efficiency and low carbon technologies to boost economic growth; to support jobs; to bring Scotland’s buildings up to standard; and to help households and businesses save money and I hope Dcarbonise helps to further build collaboration.”

The Scottish Government’s minimum energy efficiency requirements for privately rented properties come into effect on 1 April 2020 and were a major trigger for the creation of Dcarbonise. The changes mean that domestic private sector landlords with small property portfolios; non-domestic landlords; and the public sector are the primary target audience for the Dcarbonise hall.

Dcarbonise will also appeal to private sector landlords with larger property portfolios; local authorities; commercial businesses; architects and designers; the wider supply chain as well as trade bodies.

The Scottish Government, Energy Saving Trust, Zero Waste Scotland and key Zero Waste Scotland Programme, Resource Efficient Scotland, will host a central hub within Dcarbonise where visitors can come to meet representatives from each of the organisations in the form of an ‘advice clinic’. They will also be able to find out what help and support is available to ensure they meet future energy efficiency standards and can take advantage of the opportunities this will bring.

Looking forward to Dcarbonise, Mike Thornton OBE, group director of operations, Energy Saving Trust, said: “Dcarbonise is an exciting new opportunity for suppliers and buyers of energy efficiency technologies to come together and discuss how future energy efficiency standards will impact and benefit them and their customers. Energy Saving Trust aims to help people save energy every day, and Dcarbonise is another example of how saving energy can offer great business opportunities as well as mitigating climate change.”

Iain Gulland, chief executive officer of Zero Waste Scotland, added: “Dcarbonise will be a valuable new way for us to help a wide range of people, businesses and organisations, from private landlords and architects to councils and construction firms, indeed any organisation interested in reaping the rewards of improving energy efficiency and switching to low carbon.

“Our mission is to reduce waste, carbon emissions and fuel poverty in Scotland’s businesses and homes through innovative solutions which minimise our dependency on fossil fuels and transform the way we use energy to heat, cool and power our buildings.”

There will also be two full days of presentations in the energy efficiency and low carbon heat seminar theatres on the exhibition show floor; as well as workshops and sessions devoted to energy efficiency, heat, low carbon transport and more in the main conference.

Further information on all aspects of Dcarbonise and All-Energy, which are organised by Reed Exhibitions, is available at www.dcarbonise.com and www.all-energy.co.uk. Online registration is open on both websites and includes free access to both exhibitions, all conference and seminar sessions and the Civic Reception and Giant Networking Evening.
