Plans are in the pipeline for a new residential and mixed use development immediately adjacent to Scotland’s home of rugby.

Local development company Murrayfield 2020 said the ambitious new plan for the Murrayfield quarter of Edinburgh will be an exemplar of urban design and create a world class destination bringing economic, social and environmental benefits to the capital.

The firm has lodged a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) with the City of Edinburgh Council for the development on the site of the Ice Rink and Curling Rink after initial consultation with many stakeholders including Scottish Rugby Union (SRU); Edinburgh Curling Club Ltd; Murrayfield Ice Rink Ltd and some local residents.

The PAN will form a basis for future engagement with the community and key stakeholders ensuring that their rights and interests are accommodated as part of the redevelopment plans.

Murrayfield 2020 is proposing a mixed use development to include residential apartments; a luxury hotel; serviced apartments; extra care facilities for the elderly and re-location and improvement of the nearby doctors surgery.

Plans and related feasibility work are underway for a public exhibition before the end of 2016 when more detail on the specific proposals will be revealed. Funding is now in place to implement the plans.
