Flats plan approved at Broughty Ferry hotel

Dundee City Council has approved plans to convert The Hotel Broughty Ferry into flats.

Flats plan approved at Broughty Ferry hotel

The hotel, which has been owned and operated by Jeff and Gerry Stewart for the past 15 years, is to be converted into a set of eight two-bedroom flats after change of use plans were approved.

Nicoll Russell Studios submitted the plans on behalf of the couple in December last year.

The four-star hotel was previously put on the market for other hotel owners to take over after the duo decided to retire in 2018m but no offers were made.

The hotel will now be transformed into a block of eight two-bedroom flats, with the existing car park to be used for on-site parking for a total of 11 vehicles.

The flats will also have a communal swimming pool and gym, along with a garden and terrace area and bike storage facilities, the Evening Telegraph reports.

A design statement submitted reads: “Broughty Ferry is a popular suburb of Dundee and there is significant demand for high quality flatted accommodation.

“This type of accommodation is particularly attractive to older couples downsizing who are looking for a home which is close to all amenities. The Hotel Broughty Ferry site is ideally placed to service this demand being adjacent to the Broughty Ferry District Centre.

“The existing property consists of a two-storey stone-built villa with a substantial two-storey extension and a large paved car parking area to the rear. The rooms in the old part of the property retain their original high ceilings and this feature will be retained when the conversion is realised.

“The conversion proposals realise eight two-bedroom apartments and their unique selling points, besides the central Broughty Ferry location, will be the gymnasium and pool which will be accessible to all the residents with the cost to maintain these facilities divided equally.

“In the leisure suite lower ground floor dedicated cycle stores for each apartment provided. Garden areas and a terrace provide shared amenity space for the development, with these areas being maintained as part of a management contract.”
