Community consultations are underway over the proposals for land beside Easterhouse, which has been designated as part of a Community Growth Area in the Glasgow City Development Plan.  

The long-term plan is to build around 1,500 homes on the 75-hectare Heatheryknowe site, south of Commonhead Road, with four distinct areas identified as suitable for development.

The plans from Manor Architects also incorporate pre-five provision and care home facilities, plus vast areas of open space and links to the adjacent Seven Lochs Wetland Park and Maryston Woods.

A statement on the consultation website reads: “The masterplan concept is to create four villages. Each will have their own distinct identity, sense of place and history.”

The villages will be named after local farms — Netherhouse, Rogerfield, Commonhead and Heatheryknowe.

The statement added: “There is a tremendous opportunity at Heatheryknowe to create a sense of place like nowhere else in the region; a place which is both sensitive to its environment and ambitious in its outlook.

“It will see a place where families and individuals can live sustainable and healthy lives on the edge of one of the greatest cities in the UK.”
