Glasgow City Council has approved the sale of the car park at 69-97 Ingram Street to Merchant Hotel Glasgow Limited for a minimum of £6.75 million.

The sale of the 0.62 acre site, currently leased to National Car Parks Limited and used as a surface level car park, means Merchant Hotel Glasgow Limited can press on with its proposal for a 395 bedroom hotel development.

The hotel will also feature two ground floor entrances, four restaurants, a bar, coffee shop, an ‘urban garden’, meeting rooms and private dining rooms.

A total of 13 offers for the site were received by the 15 July closing date and then subsequently assessed.

Bailie Liz Cameron, executive member for jobs and the economy at Glasgow City Council, said: “The sale of this Ingram Street site will not only generate a major contribution to the public purse, but develop a key site in the city centre. The developer’s commitment to a high quality design sympathetic to the surrounding building is very welcome, and will I’m sure bring even more visitors day and night to this very attractive district in Glasgow. We have now taken another step towards the complete regeneration of the Merchant City.”

New public realm on the Ingram Street frontage of the hotel will also be delivered through the development.
