However, the contribution of its two component businesses has dropped by £1.4m compared with the previous year, The Herald reports.

City Building has two companies: City Building (Glasgow), a 50-50 joint venture between Glasgow City Council and social housing provider Wheatley Group, and City Building (Contracts), which is wholly owned by the council.

City Building (Glasgow) provides repairs, maintenance and investment work to the Wheatley Group, while City Building (Contracts) conducts work for the council and delivers commercial contracts, providing construction, repair and maintenance and manufacturing services.

New results for City (Building) Glasgow has revealed it increased turnover by 2.5% to £142.6m for the year ended March 31. This allowed City Building to return £5.5m to the council and Wheatley Group, £500,000 more than the previous year.

The firm’s turnover increased as it secured a new contract with Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership, now part of Wheatley. But, turnover declined at City Building (Contracts) to £65.2m from £87.9m, which was attributed to the completion of larger-scale construction projects. This division will contribute to £2.2m to the council for public services, down from £4.1m.
