Green light for £15m mixed use development in South Lanarkshire

Two 74 aerialSouth Lanarkshire Council has granted planning permission for a £15 million mixed used development in Rutherglen.

To be located on land adjacent to Junction 2 of the M74 motorway, the Two74 development will comprise of an anchor retail store, a retail terrace, drive-thru restaurant and two family restaurants.

Around 500 jobs are expected to be created as a result of the project.

Two 74Developers Ashfield Land will now press on to meet conditions attached to the application before starting work later this year.



Company director Steve McGarva said he is hopeful that some facilities could open as early as the middle of 2017.

Two 74 hotelMr McGarva told the Rutherglen Reformer: “We would hope now to move forward over the next few months and be on site later this year.

“We are having ongoing discussions with potential tenants and the planning permission will certainly help with that, it allows us to move the project on to the next step.

“The permission has a series of conditions to be met before we can build, but we don’t need to start the planning process again.



“Our intention would be to clear these conditions and if we can get on site this year we could be looking at having occupiers in the summer or autumn of 2017.

“It is a project of a significant scale and something that will hopefully deliver a significant number of jobs.”
