Highland Council has revealed plans to transform the Culcabock Child Guidance Centre in Inverness to help meet the demand for housing in the area.

The centre located off Culcabock Avenue was formerly a primary school and is currently used as a space for psychologists and other child care professionals to work and hold meetings in the city.

Council officials have now submitted a full planning application to renovate the internal layout of the period building to create three flats.

The main living accommodation will be housed on the ground floor of the property, whilst making use of the double-height existing windows on the property.

The developer’s design statement reads: “We believe the location for new development is suitable as it would add to the current residential setting of Culcabock Avenue and add to the increased housing demand in the Inverness area while making use of an existing building.”

The council also intends to build three semi-detached and detached homes on the site, The Press and Journal reports.

Councillor Ian Brown welcomed the plans, he said: “Certainly in Millburn ward, there is always a lack of housing itself, because it was really built up and there wasn’t much space available for development. I am certainly pleased about this as social housing is always welcome.

“It doesn’t sound like it is too many houses for the road so the roads should be able to take it okay.”
