The new £17 million Hunter Health Centre in East Kilbride has been successfully completed and delivered on time and on budget to NHS Lanarkshire.

The project was delivered by hub South West, the public-private partnership set up in 2012 to finance and build community projects in Scotland’s south west area, including Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.

The centre is the second successful handover to NHS Lanarkshire in the past three months, following the completion of Kilsyth Health Centre in March.

Constructed by Graham Construction, the new facility features a large atrium space and provides a range of GP, dental and clinical accommodation and staff office space over five floors.

The new four-storey, 6300 square-metre centre features a large atrium space and is located on land adjacent to the previous centre. The new building will provide accommodation for six GP practices, a general dental practice and a wide range of primary care services.

Michael McBrearty, chief executive of Hub South West, said: “The new Hunter Health Centre is the seventh facility we have delivered to clients on time and on budget in the past 18 months.

“It is testament to the partnership working of all stakeholders that the project was handed over on schedule. Particular thanks are extended to our multiple stakeholders including NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Scotland and South Lanarkshire Council, whose co-operation has been vital in the successful completion of the project. Thanks also go to our main contractor Graham Construction for achieving this significant milestone.

“We are delighted to have been involved in this exciting new facility which involved the significant use of local tradesmen and will no doubt provide people in the area with an improved health care experience.”

Graham Construction’s regional director, Gary Holmes, said: “Throughout this project, our whole team was focussed on the enormous benefits the new health centre would bring to thousands of people in East Kilbride. It will literally be a life-saving facility for many in the local community and we’re hugely proud to have delivered it on time and on budget.”

Mr McBrearty added: “By actively encouraging small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to join our Supplier Network, we provide local contract opportunities and help potential suppliers secure work via our Supply Chain Institute. Additional support is also available via our Skills Academy generating work placements, apprenticeships and training opportunities.”

NHS Lanarkshire chief executive Calum Campbell said: “This new state of the art facility will allow our health care staff to enhance the first class care they already provide to the people of East Kilbride.

“As modern health care evolves to enable the delivery of health and social care services in community settings, this fantastic facility is ideally equipped to help us do this.

“With a range of services all under one roof, it gives patients easier access to health care staff which can only improve the delivery of community based health care to the local population.

“A lot of hard work by all our staff and partners has gone into making this a reality and I would like to thank everyone who has played their part in helping to pull it together.”

hub South West is a public private partnership which enables the cost efficient design and construction of community facilities, including schools, health centres and care homes, within the south-west region of Scotland.

During the past year hub South West has successfully handed over seven projects totalling £38m, with a further £110m currently in construction and £350m at the design development stage.

The partnership aims to invest over £1 billion in new public buildings over the next 10 years, providing additional business and employment opportunities within Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.
