Importance of water hygiene highlighted with new Morrison Construction VR tool

Unveiled today during the WWT Water Scotland Conference at Crowne Plaza Glasgow, the software includes a toolbox talk targeting people working on the Scottish Water distribution network about the importance of water hygiene and a module on Water Network Control guidance to educate employees.

This latest investment in virtual reality technology by Morrison Construction’s Water Scotland business cost £30,000, developed over 18 weeks with 3D animation specialists, Animmersion.

New generation Oculus Quest headsets and controllers will accompany the new software minimising hardware such as sensors and allowing a wireless experience for participants.

Morrison Construction Water Scotland regional director, Stephen Slessor, said: “It is fantastic to be at the WWT Water Scotland Conference today and launch our latest investment in virtual reality technology among industry peers and valued clients.

“We are excited to showcase our latest virtual reality experience designed to enhance customer engagement and employee professional development. Our clients are a top priority and we believe it is an industry first to develop a specific toolbox talk on water hygiene. In particular, we are keen to reinforce the message that water hygiene is subject to the same stringent rules as food.

“Our team would like to thank our project partner Animmersion for their valued contribution during this second successful collaboration. We look forward to finding out what future innovations in virtual reality we may achieve together.”

Morrison Construction’s Water Scotland business has previously invested £50,000 to develop software providing education about site safety launched at the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre in May 2018.
