ISG begins work to deliver Velux head office expansion in Fife

ISG has started construction work on a £7 million expansion to the UK & Ireland head office building of roof window manufacturer Velux in Fife.

The 37,673 sq ft two-storey, new build structure will house a new customer service centre, training facilities, meeting suites, office space and a staff restaurant.

Designed to complement the gently sloping site, the glulam-framed extension features a curved roof, full-height glassing, stone and timber cladding, and will showcase the latest Velux technology, including its Modular Skylight System, alongside Velux flat roof windows and sun tunnels.

The extension joins the existing building via a new staff entrance, which features a green roof, aluminium guttering and timber rain screen cladding.

Groundworks started in September 2018 at the site in Glenrothes, with completion scheduled for autumn 2019.

Andy McLinden, managing director for ISG’s UK Construction North and Scotland business, said: “At ISG we pride ourselves on our office credentials, with companies across Scotland selecting us as the partner of choice to support their businesses through change. We are incredibly proud to be working with Velux on this project, which demonstrates the household brand’s commitment to its future in Scotland.”

Mick Schou Rasmussen, managing director of Velux UK & Ireland, said: “Once completed, the new building will provide our existing employees with a much improved working environment and accommodate any increase in headcount in the future. The new building has also allowed us to decrease our estate’s footprint by selling off a number of vacant buildings to growing local businesses, in turn boosting the local economy.”

Councillor Altany Craik, convener of Fife Council’s economy, tourism and strategic planning committee, said: “It is fantastic to see a local business expanding and growing like this. This new building looks very impressive and showcases many of the company’s products. There is no doubt this will help VELUX continue to be a leading roof window business in the UK and it clearly shows their commitment to developing their operation in Fife.”

The new building has been designed by Sinclair Watt Architects.
