Joint primary school and health clinic planned for Chryston
North Lanarkshire Council has teamed up with NHS Lanarkshire to propose a combined primary school and health clinic at Chryston.
Designed by Ryder Architecture on behalf of hub South West, the Chryston Community Hub will replace the existing Chryston Primary School and provide a new community health clinic.
Children and young people, staff, parents and the local community have been working with the design team and senior council officers to ensure the design of the campus reflects the educational aspirations of the council, taking into account the requirements of the local community and the natural heritage and architecture of the area.
Under the proposals, the amenities will extend to high quality outdoor and indoor sports facilities, extensive landscaped playground for the school, healthcare gardens for clinic patients and staff and community gardens with enhanced connections across the site to encourage active travel.
The new facilities will provide naturally lit flexible spaces fit for 21st-century learning and will be agile enough to accommodate a wide range of learning requirements. While the clinic will provide naturally lit, accessible community health spaces. The design will embody a high degree of adaptability to allow it to respond to the changing requirements of the local community over the life of the project.
Robertson Construction has been appointed by hub South West as the preferred contractor for the project, with Goodson Associates (consulting civil and structural design engineers) and Rybka (mechanical and electrical design engineers) making up the wider design team.
An Intelligent Briefing process was undertaken in May 2020 to collate the objectives of the project with the stakeholders; the council, NHS Lanarkshire, pupils, staff and parents.
Engagement sessions with pupils, staff and parents were also undertaken during the Intelligent Briefing in May 2020 as well as part of Pre-Planning Consultation process in September 2020. Local Community Engagement sessions were also arranged in September.
Pending approval, the planned start on site is Q3 2021 with construction completion/handover Q1 2023.
