New 200-bed Aviator Hotel planned for Edinburgh Airport
Edinburgh Airport could be set for a new 200-bed hotel after a proposal of application notice was submitted to the local authority.
Under the plans, the ‘Aviator Hotel’ would sit adjacent to Ingliston Road and include a double-height restaurant, bar and conference facilities as well as parking and landscape works.
In a statement the applicant Flowpearl said the 200-bed hotel plans fits in the wider Royal Highland Centre masterplan and the strategic importance of the west Edinburgh business cluster which includes the airport, the RHC and International Business Gateway.
The statement added: “The top-level Aviator Club is designed as a derivative conning-tower, with glazed walls and roof. A viewing tower for aircraft against the backdrop of the sky. The glazed and illuminated roof service structure together with the Aviator Club are composed to provide the 5th elevation as a recognisable portal to Edinburgh for air travellers.”
Construction is expected to get underway by 2020.
