North Lanarkshire Council is continuing to drive forward its pledge to deliver 5,000 new homes by 2035 as another new development starts on site.

New council housing project now on site at former Chryston Care Home

This latest project at the former Chilterns Care Home, Lindsaybeg Road, Chryston, is the 41st new council house site in North Lanarkshire now complete or underway.

The Chryston development will feature 21 new, modern, affordable homes for local residents, comprising 17 flats and four cottage flats, with eight of these homes designed for wheelchair users. All homes within the development are either built to amenity standard or wheelchair liveable standard.

Other features of this latest project include a communal garden area for tenants; a resident parking area which will be fitted with two electric vehicle charging points and level access throughout the development, with the flatted block being serviced by two internal lifts.

The £3.9 million development is set to be delivered by the Hadden Group, with a contribution of £1.2m being made by the Scottish Government. It’s estimated that the project will be complete by spring 2022.

Pam Humphries, head of planning and regeneration, said: “It’s always pleasing to see our new housing developments get underway, particularly with the challenges the Covid pandemic is presenting. This project signals the progress we’re making, and continue to make, in providing modern, affordable and energy efficient homes for our tenants.

“Our new homes are designed and built to the highest standards with energy efficiency measures that help our tenants save money on running costs while protecting the environment and they all meet Housing for Varying Needs, which means homes are more accessible to adapt to tenants’ mobility needs. They are built for the future and will last for generations to come.

“Our ambitious housing plans support the regeneration of our local communities and our town centres; provide employment and boost the local economy and improve the lives of our tenants - all part of our long term vision to make North Lanarkshire the place to live.”

Steven Brady, managing director at Hadden Group, added: “This exciting new development marks our second project on site with North Lanarkshire Council under the Scottish Procurement Alliance Framework. We are delighted to break ground on this new project and are set to bring benefits to the local community, including employment and apprenticeship opportunities, educational support and engagement activity with local schools.

“Working with the Council, we are bringing new sustainable, energy-efficient and high-quality housing to Chryston that will provide great homes for the local community for many years to come.”
