Organisers hail success of BIM Convention

Over 130 senior executives attended the BIM Convention at the Glasgow City Hotel last week to listen to a wide variety of presentations on what BIM means for the construction industry.

David Philp, chair of the Scottish Future Trust’s BIM Implementation Group, was up first to give a broad overview of the Scottish Government’s plans for the implementation of BIM by April 2016. Diarmid McLachlan, lead architect at Fife Council, discussed, the approach taken by the council towards introducing BIM across their Property Services department and he was followed by Brian Jukes, director of Business Fix Limited, who is leading a cultural change programme that Fife Council Property Services are rolling out as part of their BIM Implementation Strategy.

After the coffee break, Graham Stewart of Ramboll’s presentation on The Practical Application of BIM, was very well received. As were the presentations of Don McLean, managing director of McLean Architects, who shared in an open and frank manner his businesses BIM Journey and Andy Walker, business unit design manager at Morgan Sindall, who gave an in-depth presentation on their BIM Implementation journey. Finally Shona Frame, partner of CMS gave a comprehensive overview of the legal perspective.

Paul McDevitt of organisers Business Fix said: “We were absolutely delighted with the significant turnout, and the level of engagement, throughout the duration of the BIM Convention. Having now analysed delegate feedback, I’m pleased to report that the convention has been a huge success, with delegates rating the event 4.5 out of 6, were a score of six is excellent. Also 95 per cent of delegates stated they would recommend the BIM Convention to others and 95 per cent would attend again.”
