Planning approved for new £4.6m Girvan primary school

Morrison Construction is to begin work on a replacement for Sacred Heart Primary School in Girvan this May.

Planning approved for new £4.6m Girvan primary school

Planning permission has just been granted for the £4.6 million school which will be built on the site of the existing primary.

The school will be complete by August 2022, in time for the start of the new term.

With capacity for 125 children, South Ayrshire Council said the new Sacred Heart Primary will feature the latest technology, as well as interactive spaces to boost learning.

Councillor William Grant, children and young people portfolio holder, said: “This is fantastic news for Girvan and underlines our commitment to invest in education. I know the children and staff will be eager to get back to their school, but I am sure it will be worth the wait.”

Councillor Brian McGinley, resources and performance portfolio holder, said: “As we transition out of lockdown, it’s even more important that we have learning environments that stimulate children and help close the attainment gap. I have no doubt the new Sacred Heart Primary will help us do exactly that.”

South Ayrshire Council appointed Morrison Construction as the preferred contractor to deliver the new school, which was then estimated to cost £3.6m, in 2019.
