Plans lodged for more than 500 homes in Glenboig

The proposed houses on Main Street range in size from 730 square feet to 1489 square feet. They would be a mixture of two and three-bedroomed terraced units and semi-detached homes, as well as three and four-bedroomed detaches houses with front and back gardens.

The development would require a realigning of a burn on the site, GlasgowLive reports.

Part of a supporting document submitted to North Lanarkshire Council reads: “The vision for the development is based on the provision of a high-quality development appropriate for its context, that will facilitate a sustainable environment of richness and variety.

“It will consist of a legible and robust design, incorporating permeable access and circulation network. This vision is to maintain and compliment the quality of the site and natural heritage, whilst interpreting the needs and aspirations of society.”

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland added that the development would have excellent public transport links.

The developer said: “A safe, pleasant and user-friendly public realm has been designed which will discourage unnecessary use of cars whilst encouraging cycling, walking and children playing. The overall development incorporates an extensive amenity footpath network throughout, responding to desire lines and creating green routes through the out the site.

“The layout encourages sustainable transport by providing direct access to the existing local bus stops along Glenboig Main Street. The site also has easy access to Gartcosh railway station 1.5 miles from the development, which is on the Glasgow – Edinburgh line.”
