Plans revived for backpackers hostel in Glasgow city centre

Revived plans to convert the empty upper floors of a B-listed premises in central Glasgow into a backpackers’ hostel are being brought forward to the council.

If approved, Metro Inns Ltd plans to convert the first, second and third storeys at Virginia House, at the corner of Virginia Street and Wilson Street in the Merchant City.

A previous application made in 2014 was granted permission, ReGlasgow reports.

The upper floors, which were previously used as offices, have been empty for 18 months. The ground floor and basement accommodate three bars and a nightclub.



The plans comprise of an open area housing reception, lounge and kitchen on the first floor with 30 bedrooms/dormitories.
