Profits and turnover on the rise at Clark Contracts

Directors at Clark Contracts

Clark Contracts has hailed a high level of repeat custom at the firm as it revealed a near-40% increase in profits.

The Paisley-based contractor reported a pre-tax profit of £1.9 million in the year ended October 31, up from £1.4m the year before. Turnover, meanwhile, rose to nearly £72m from £56.2m.

With 85% of the work secured by the firm coming from repeat business, managing director, Gordon Cunningham welcomed the trust extended from existing customers but said Clark Contracts is always seeking to benefit from multiple revenue streams.

Having successfully diversified from construction into the retail, higher education and hotel sectors, the 40-year-old company is now considering a move into social and private housing.

Mr Cunningham told The Herald: “We’ve got a good base, and the new sectors we have brought in widen that. It spreads the risk among sectors and customer groups – that is very much on purpose.”

Clark Contracts is currently working for its eighth unit for Lidl and counts Home Bargains as a client, while a recent foray into the hotel sector has seen it pick up work with Moxy, the Dutch hotel group, in the UK, on sites near Edinburgh Airport and Southampton.

Gordon Cunningham told Scottish Construction Now: “It is fantastic to be celebrating our 40th year in business this year and we thank our customers and staff for helping us get here. We look forward to working with them for many more years.”
