During the visit she met the CGC team who were happy to teach the Provost the essentials of the business.

Provost Cameron is aiming to raise as much money as possible during her time in office to support three charities close to her heart - MND Scotland, St Vincent’s Hospice and ACCORD Hospice.

As part of this, she has challenged herself to get out and about with local businesses and try her hand at almost anything. The CGC visit was the first one undertaken.

Provost Cameron visited a house where rot work is being carried out by CGC to restore it so that the tenant can move back in. She tried her hand at plastering a wall and according to the workmen on hand was “remarkably good at it”.

She also visited the structural steel fabrication division and learned how to design items like a bench with computer-aided design technology.

Provost Cameron said: “It was a great insight into the workings of a Renfrewshire business and valuable to see the kind of skills the staff have

“I am especially impressed with the support that this firm gives to their young employees and the way they equip them with the skills required for successful employment.

“It is no surprise to me that young workers want to stay with the Company when they finish their training

“I think it is wonderful that we have such ambitious and focused businesses operating in Renfrewshire.”

Leo Reilly, managing director of CGC, added: “We were delighted to welcome the Provost to CGC. The plastering proved a real success and this idea of getting out and about meeting local businesses with a charity purpose is a great idea. We wish the Provost well in her continuing Working Challenges.”
