Retail and restaurant planned at Dundee’s Locarno Works
A disused Dundee factory could be transformed into a retail and restaurant complex under initial proposals lodged with the local authority.
About this development:
- Authority:Dundee City
- Type:Residential, Commercial
- Applications:
- Team:Torridon Developments (developer)
Torridon Developments has drawn up plans to develop the former Locarno Works on Brown Street into a “social and cultural space” – with retail, food and drink outlets, along with student accommodation.
Maintaining the existing structure of the building, including the stack tower, the redevelopment will see three new levels constructed on top, one of which is proposed to house the existing snooker club.
Small-scale retail and food and drink will be included in the new space, along with student accommodation on three new floors to be constructed on the north part of the site at Lochee Road.
In line with the latest Scottish Government guidance, the developer will conduct its public engagement via the website – locarnoworks.co.uk – which contains a public exhibition and will host a chance to speak to the consultant team on May 20 from 4-8pm.
A proposed timeline for the project is also available to view on the website and reveals how the developers are expecting work on the building to begin late in 2022, with the units then being available for prospective businesses in 2023.
