The new lighting system will deliver improved energy performance and is future-proofed to allow for the integration of new monitoring and performance products as they become available.

SPIE UK will be responsible for the design and installation of the upgrade, which will take place whilst ensuring the continued safe use of the underpass by road users.

The solution will make use of adaptive SMART LED lighting technology which is designed to allow for lighting levels to be adjusted in line with how high traffic levels are, creating further efficiencies for energy usage. The solution will also incorporate Uninterruptable Power Supply back up to enhance security and durability and include remote monitoring.

The contract comes as a result of recommendations SPIE UK made to Scotland TranServ following maintenance work carried out in 2017 and monitoring of the lighting systems in place in the following two years. SPIE will be designing and installing the lighting infrastructure and cabling.

SPIE has completed over £30 million of tunnel lighting contracts in the past five years.
