Springfield Properties is set to significantly contribute to the Scottish housing market after receiving approval for over 1,700 new homes at 13 sites so far in 2016.

Located from Motherwell to Forres and Dornoch to Edinburgh, the new homes will cover an area of more than 350 hectares which is the equivalent of 175 football pitches.

Springfield said the properties will range from one to five bedrooms, creating new, high quality housing appealing to a wide audience of varying budgets. Of the new homes the firm has received approval for, over 25 per cent will be affordable housing.

Springfield Partnerships managing director, Tom Leggeat, oversees the affordable aspect of the company.

He said: “In Scotland alone, we need to be building 12,000 new affordable homes a year – just to break even with the current demand for affordable housing.

“The Scottish Government has pledged a budget of £572 million for 2016-17 and a total of £3 billion to help resolve the lack of social housing over the next 5 years.

“At Springfield, we are actively procuring land and establishing relationships with various housing associations and councils to help address this need.”

Due to the buoyant Scottish housing market, and the firm’s appetite for growth, Springfield is also in the process of gaining planning consent for a further 2,000 homes. These plots range from a 17 home development to the 870 house development to the South of Elgin.

Springfield Properties chairman, Sandy Adam, said: “Conditions in the Scottish construction and housing sectors are good at present, with demand for high quality affordable family homes continuing to increase.

“We are investing considerably in our developments creating high-quality homes, jobs, infrastructure and making a significant contribution to the Scottish economy and local communities.

“We hope to receive planning consent for a number of other developments in planning at the moment. We continue to explore other opportunities that will allow us to create new villages, like the ones in Perth, Dundee and Elgin, from scratch.”
