Stirling Council approves 400-home expansion of Raploch

robertson groupMore than 400 new homes will be built in the Raploch district of Stirling in a bid to accelerate ongoing work to tackle disadvantage and deprivation in the area, the local authority has revealed.

Stirling Council has approved the Raploch Regeneration Initiative, a partnership with housebuilder Robertson Group Ltd, which aims to deliver 400 to 543 new homes across five sites over the next four years.

The homes are to be built in Gowanhill Gardens, Craigforth Crescent, Raploch Road, Kildean and Drip Road by 2020.

The housing provided will include at least 160 units for affordable rent, 100 units for mid-market rent, 40 private rental units and 100 units for market sale. Approximately 60 affordable units will be delivered by utilising £5 million affordable housing investment from the Falkirk Pension Fund, to be managed by Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association.

Stirling Council leader, Johanna Boyd, said: “The partnership between Stirling Council and Robertson Group Ltd. has risen from Stirling’s City Commission - an advisory board which will help guide Stirling’s choices in infrastructure investment, business development, connectivity and other high impact projects. This new housing in Raploch will support the City Development Framework – a programme to position Stirling as an economic and cultural powerhouse - as housing plays an essential role in promoting economic growth and social justice.”

Stirling Council’s community planning and regeneration convenor, Cllr Corrie McChord, said: “By approving this partnership proposal to increase the amount and variety of housing in Raploch we are continuing our commitment to the regeneration of the area.”

An outline feasibility study has been undertaken by Robertson which has established that an affordable proposal can deliver the housing units and also generate an income stream for the Raploch URC for the duration of the construction period, to fund employability initiatives within Stirling.
