Two new members join ARB board

Stephen Brookhouse and Alan Kershaw have been appointed to the board of the Architects Registration Board (ARB) for an initial three-month period.

The temporary appointments will cover an existing lay vacancy as well as an architect vacancy created by the recent retirement of Richard Parnaby at the end of March 2020.

Stephen Brookhouse is a chartered architect with over 30 years’ experience at a senior level in architectural practice and higher education. He has contributed to reviews of architectural education and is currently a professor of architecture and associate head of college for external relations at the University of Westminster. A former member of the ARB Investigations Panel and Professional Conduct Committee, Stephen has a particular interest in dispute resolution and is an accredited mediator.

Alan Kershaw has specialised in professional regulation for over 30 years. He has worked in both executive and non-executive roles, and now serves as a lay member of a range of professional bodies. Alan is experienced in all areas of regulatory process, with particular focus on standards, education, governance and strategy.

Karen Holmes, registrar and chief executive of ARB, said: “We are pleased to welcome Stephen and Alan to our Board. The whole ARB team is looking forward to working with tour new members and benefiting from the range of experience they bring.”
