Wheatley Group has unveiled an ambitious five-year strategy which will see hundreds of new homes and jobs created in West Dunbartonshire.

The plans, which are the first of a series of launches in Wheatley Group’s key areas of operation, will also see a multi-million pound investment in existing homes in the area and new and improved services to tenants and factored homeowners.

The massive new-build programme is a direct result of Wheatley’s strategic housing partnership with West Dunbartonshire Council.

The ambitious five-year strategy will see:

  • 400 affordable homes built in West Dunbartonshire;
  • up to 600 new jobs and training places created or supported;

  • more than £2.6 million invested in existing homes.
  • Wheatley also announced it is to open a new Cube Housing Association office in Dumbarton town centre. The other Wheatley organisations that operate in West Dunbartonshire are Loretto Housing, YourPlace Property Management, Lowther Homes, which has a portfolio of largely mid-market apartments and Loretto Care.

    Councillor David McBride, convener of housing and communities, said: “It is extremely pleasing to see the Wheatley Group set out its strategy for delivering new housing throughout West Dunbartonshire over the next five years.

    “Since the strategic partnership was launched last year, almost 100 homes have already been built in the area and there are advanced plans in place for many more.

    “This council is committed to improving local housing and this partnership, combined with continued investment in our own housing stock, will ensure that we continue to build a better West Dunbartonshire for all of our residents.”

    Wheatley chief executive, Martin Armstrong, said: “We are delighted to be working as a strategic partner, with West Dunbartonshire Council to deliver hundreds of new, fuel-efficient homes.

    “This ambitious new-build programme will increase the supply of much-needed affordable housing and create and secure hundreds of jobs and training opportunities.

    “Importantly, it will be complemented by significant investment in hundreds of existing homes that will help to sustain and improve communities local people are proud to live in.”

    Cube chair Liz Ruine added: “I’m delighted that communities in West Dunbartonshire are being regenerated as part of Wheatley’s strategic partnership with West Dunbartonshire Council.

    “As a local resident, I’m proud that we are going to redevelop Carrick Terrace as one of the first projects in the town.”

    As well as the huge investment in housing, Wheatley will improve services to its customers by providing:

    • support for vulnerable tenants to stay in their own homes for longer;
    • new personalised services for tenants with care needs;
    • increased online services for tenants and factored homeowners

    • and an improved repairs service.
    • The ongoing growth and development of Lowther Homes’ property portfolio will broaden the housing options available to people looking to rent a home in West Dunbartonshire.
