With Scottish construction industry latest output figures approaching pre-recession levels, keeping sufficient stocks of construction products in Scotland is vitally important according to Wrekin Products regional sales & operations manager Richard Stewart.

“The logistical problem of supplying construction materials across Scotland is most acute within specialist construction materials, where contractors often have to wait for products to be shipped up from southern based warehouses” says Richard.

“Wrekin Products investment in its ductile iron manhole cover and geosynthetics distribution centre puts stock on the ground in Scotland for contractors and builders’ merchants in a sector where a fast order turnaround is important.”

Scotland’s private property and construction sector is displaying signs of sustained recovery with turnover growth and an improved debt position, according to a new Grant Thornton Scotland Ltd report. This growth is the catalyst for Wrekin Products further investment in its existing Linlithgow premises which it has operated since 2006.

Richard Stewart recently joined Wrekin Products bringing with him 14 years’ experience supplying drainage and civil engineering materials in Scotland.

“Working through builders’ merchants Wrekin Products has always had a good presence. With increasing demand, merchant customers rely on us to keep the right stocks of manhole covers, gullies, geotextiles and geogrids at our distribution centre. The central location means many contractors who order from their merchant get it the same day using the drive-in-and-collect service at our depot.

“Investment in road, rail and water infrastructure is providing strong growth for the construction sector in Scotland. The ability to support companies with high performance civil engineering products through our robust local supply network is central to Wrekin Products’ expansion plan in Scotland.”

This demand for high performance products is being driven by the requirements of transport and utilities organisations to reduce future maintenance costs. Wrekin Products is experiencing a significant increase in the specification of products that offer an extended life expectancy such as its Unite manhole cover.

Supporting Richard in Scotland, Wrekin Products has also expanded the technical team at its HQ in Lichfield, offering an even greater level of back up for customers, specifiers and contractors across the whole UK.
