12 new council homes to be built in Dunfermline
Fife Council is progressing plans for 12 new council houses in Milesmark, Dunfermline.
The council’s cabinet committee has authorised a contract with Dundas Estates and Development Co Ltd to deliver the much-needed new council houses.
They will be built on land just off Carnock Road and Rumblingwell, opposite the junction to The Castings. The properties will consist of six 3-bedroom terraced houses, two 2-bedroom semi-detached houses and four 2-bedroom cottage flats.
It is anticipated that work could start later this year with the new homes welcoming their first tenants in late 2025.
Cllr Judy Hamilton, spokesperson for housing, welcomed the latest development in Fife’s Affordable Housing Programme, which is one of the UK’s largest social house-building programmes.
She said: “I am pleased that we’re continuing to deliver on our ambitious Affordable Housing Programme. The pressures on housing services remain persistently high, and we are in the midst of a housing emergency. However, we can’t lose sight of the fact that each newly built home is an important milestone in delivering more modern, fit-for-purpose, energy-efficient affordable houses.
“It can also be transformative for the wellbeing of tenants who move in with the new-build houses offering secure tenancy in warmer, drier and healthier homes.”
As well as providing more housing, the Affordable Housing Programme continues to create jobs and apprenticeships, supporting the construction industry and the Fife economy.
