Proposals by Consarc Design Group Ltd (CDG), lodged on behalf of ES Renfield Ltd, will see the 12-storey building fill a void opposite the Pavilion Theatre.

If planning is granted the building, understood to be a four-star Maldron Hotel, will feature a bar, restaurant and business facilities with an opportunity to develop on the remainder of the site.

CDG said the comprehensive redevelopment intends to provide a scheme of architectural quality which will contribute positively to the existing and emerging townscape as well as an opportunity for future development on the remainder of the site.

The site, which lies just outside the Glasgow Central Conservation area, has been empty since 2007 when STV studios relocated to their new purpose-built studios at Pacific Quay.
