Work will take place from January 5 until April, 2021, as part of a wide-ranging structural modernisation programme.

The vital project - involving cleaning, steelwork repairs and repainting – can’t happen without a partial lane closure for the duration of the project in the area between Robertson Avenue and Wheatfield Road.

Residents and businesses in the area have been advised of the upcoming programme, which will involve minor de-vegetation work, as well as noisy ‘rivet-busting’ and ‘grit-blasting’ activities.

Gerald Brown, scheme project manager at Network Rail, said: “The work we’re doing at Gorgie Road will not only extend the lifespan of the bridge but will ensure we can continue to run a safe and reliable railway.

“We understand that a partial lane closure isn’t ideal on what is an important through route for local traffic, however, the diversion route will ensure we can complete these works with a minimum of disruption and inconvenience to the community.

“We apologise to anyone affected by this work and we thank you for your patience while we carry out these vital improvement works.”
