36 flats planned for Dennistoun gap site
Vacant land in Dennistoun is the subject of another application for new homes after an earlier appeal failed to win approval.
About this development:
- Authority:Glasgow City
- Type:Residential
- Applications:
- Team:Jewitt and Wilkie Architects (architect), Scotia Capital Partners (developer)
Scotia Capital Partners has applied to build 36 flats on land between Birkenshaw Street and Cumbernauld Road.
Designed by Jewitt & Wilkie Architects, the proposal will deliver a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments over two adjoining blocks. The larger building, containing 28 units, would front Cumbernauld Road. A block with eight units would be down Birkenshaw Street.
In a statement, Scotia Capital Partners wrote: “The proposed exclusive development is for 36 1 and 2 bedroom attractive, modern, well-designed, energy-efficient, apartments with 100% allocated parking. The proposed development will complement and contribute to the local area providing additional high-quality apartments that meet demand.
“The development will also bring significant economic, social & community benefits through the delivery process.”
A previous proposal by Stanton Brook Estates for 46 flats in one block was rejected by Glasgow City Council last year.
Officials said that the density and scale of the block of flats, combined with lack of open space, would result in overdevelopment of the site and also voiced concerns about a lack of open space and car parking facilities.
