500 books to benefit primary pupils after Persimmon donation
Hundreds of primary pupils across South Lanarkshire are being given a free copy of a new children’s book, following a donation from homebuilder Persimmon West Scotland.
‘Cones and Building Homes’ was commissioned by Persimmon Homes and written by author Chris Madeley. The book is part of a series in which cones discover the world around them. The book aims to raise awareness of health and safety among primary pupils, as well as showcasing the construction sector and the world of work.
Persimmon West Scotland Managing Director Chris Logan met with local pupils, Headteacher Kathleen Faloon and development officer Caroline Cullen at St. Cadoc’s Primary School in Cambuslang, where he handed over 50 of the books.
The books are being delivered to 12 primary schools across South Lanarkshire – from Cambuslang to Lesmahagow.
Jacqueline Wallace, head of education (Primary and Early Years) at South Lanarkshire Council, said: “Anything that engages our children and young people and encourages them to read is to be encouraged and supported.
“These books will not only do that but will also help learners understand some of the basic health and safety issues that they may encounter as they progress through school and beyond into the world of work.
“We are therefore delighted to receive these books from Persimmon Homes which will be a much welcome additional resource for our schools, staff and learners, adding to the teaching tools available.”
Chris Logan, Persimmon West Scotland managing director, added: “We’re delighted to be supporting primary schools across South Lanarkshire with this donation and it was great to meet some of the local pupils that will benefit from these books.
“The books are a fun way for young people to learn about the world of construction and the importance of safety. Hopefully they will also inspire some of the pupils to consider a career in construction in the future.
“We want to leave a positive legacy in the areas we operate in and I want to thank South Lanarkshire Council for helping us ensure these books reach as many local schools as possible.”
