74 flats proposed at former Glasgow car park
A flats complex comprising 74 properties is the subject of early proposals for a car park in central Glasgow.
Surplus Property Solutions Ltd wants to deliver a part seven-storey, part four-storey block in Charlotte Street at the former headquarters of social enterprise organisation the Wise Group.
Under the plans by HAUS Collective, a mix of one, two and three-bedroom properties, plus a roof terrace and private green space at ground level, would be provided as well as underground parking for 37 vehicles. An unlisted building would also be demolished.
The 0.35-ha site is located near to a row of houses, thought to be designed by Robert Adam, that were built in the 1780s. The site then became home to Our lady of St Francis School which was extended by renowned Scottish architects Gillespie, Kidd & Coia. The area was heavily developed in the latter half of the 20th century and early 21st century, The original school building was demolished in 2001.
A Proposal of Application Notice (PoAN) was submitted to Glasgow City Council on September 14 and registered on September 16 for ‘the erection of flatted residential development with associated access, car parking and amenity.
An application for Planning Permission will be submitted following the statutory 12 week consultation period. An application for Conservation Area Consent will be required for the demolition of the existing building within the red line boundary.
