£8.1m health and care centre planned for Aberdeen
Plans have been unveiled for a new £8.1 million health and care centre in Aberdeen.
The facility, which will be located in the Greenferns area on the western edge of Northfield near to Orchard Brae and Heathryburn Schools, will incorporate the general medical services currently being delivered from Denburn Medical Centre, Northfield Surgery and Mastrick Clinic.
It will also incorporate Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership (ACHSCP) services including community nursing, community midwifery and health visitors – along with other allied health professional services like podiatry, physiotherapy and dietetics.
The Greenferns area was confirmed as the site for the new centre following a period of engagement with key stakeholders.
Public engagement events to showcase the planned development will be held on:
- Tuesday 27 November, 1-4 pm, Denburn Health Centre;
- Wednesday 28 November, 1-4 pm, Mastrick Clinic;
- Thursday 29 November, 9am-12 noon, Northfield Surgery;
- Thursday 29 November, 2pm-5pm, Northfield Community Centre;
- Monday 3 December, 9am-12 noon, Mastrick Community Centre;
- Wednesday 5 December, 5.30pm-7pm, Rosemount Community Centre.
ACHSCP staff will be on hand to spell out the progress being made to redesign local health and care services and answer any questions. They will also talk about transport links, plans for involving the public in naming the new facility, key milestones as the project progresses, and plans to launch a dedicated Facebook page for the project.
ACHSCP lead planning manager, Kay Dunn, said “This new development shows our commitment to providing the best possible health and care services for the people of Aberdeen. We are reshaping and re-imagining primary and community care across the city and this project is an exciting opportunity to deliver a purpose-built facility fit for the future.
“I would urge people to pop along to any of our drop-in sessions to find out more and to see for themselves what the future provision of health and care will look like in Aberdeen.”
The Scottish Government has already approved an initial agreement to invest the seven-figure sum in the new centre to deliver health and care services for the patients of the Denburn/Aurora Medical group.
The Initial Agreement – which is the first phase in the planning process – was approved by the Scottish Government in March this year. The next two phases – the Outline Business Case and the Full Business Case - will be considered next April and next December respectively.
Work is set to start on the capital project in early 2020, with completion due in spring 2021.
