A chance to shine: Nominations open for CIOB in Scotland Awards 2025

Lynne McKay

Time is of the essence for construction professionals across Scotland who want to be recognised with a prestigious industry award, writes Lynne McKay, CIOB’s regional manager for Scotland.

I’m delighted to announce nominations are now officially open for the CIOB in Scotland Awards 2025, with the winners set to be celebrated at a glittering awards lunch at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Glasgow, on 10 October 2025.

The CIOB in Scotland Awards are all about recognising and honouring the very best of our sector - from seasoned leaders to the rising stars shaping the future of construction. It’s our opportunity to make sure the hard work, innovation and dedication which happens behind the scenes is finally put centre stage.

Categories up for grabs this year include Client of the Year, Team of the Year, and Rising Star. Once again, awards are open to both CIOB members and non-members. Whether you’re part of a small firm, a large contractor, or working client-side, there’s an award up for grabs for everyone.

I am often asked what the benefits of entering the awards are, and to be honest, winning a CIOB Award can be a real game-changer.

It is not just about the trophy, although that is a nice physical reminder of your hard work, but the real reward comes from the recognition you will gain from your industry peers and being able to demonstrate your commitment to excellence at a national level.

I recently heard from Ianna Roche, who won the Graduate of the Year award in last year’s event, and she summed it up perfectly.

“Hearing my name announced as Graduate of the Year was surreal,” she told me.

“I felt an overwhelming mix of joy, pride, and gratitude. It was incredible to be recognised in front of such a prestigious group of industry leaders and peers who have all worked hard to excel in their own careers. In that moment, I felt validated for the efforts I’ve put in and excited about what lies ahead for me in the industry.

“Winning the CIOB Award is a tremendous honour that signifies not only my personal effort but also the support and encouragement I’ve received from mentors and peers along the way.

“Personally, it reinforces my belief in pursuing excellence and staying committed to my career. Professionally, it marks a pivotal moment in my journey, elevating my visibility in the industry and helping to establish my reputation as a dedicated and capable professional.

“It opened doors to networking opportunities I hadn’t previously considered. Moreover, it has given me the confidence to seek out roles with greater responsibility, allowing me to enhance my skills and knowledge further.”

Of course, all finalists are invited to attend the awards lunch, which is an unmissable occasion. You’ll enjoy a fantastic afternoon in the heart of Glasgow, surrounded by colleagues, peers, and industry leaders. It’s a great chance to network, celebrate success, and enjoy an event filled with pride in what the construction sector continues to achieve.

Nominations are open until 6 June 2025, and it’s quick and simple to submit your entry online. Whether you’re putting yourself forward, nominating a colleague, or showcasing the work of your team, you can fill out an electronic application form.

I can’t wait to read this year’s nominations, and I look forward to seeing so many people at what promises to be another truly memorable awards day in October.
